Yacht delivery from the UK to Gibraltar and southern Spain
Hamble to Gibraltar is the single route our instant estimator is asked about most. Gibraltar and the nearby marinas of Sotogrande, Estepona and the Costa del Sol make a natural base: a gateway to the Med, a jumping-off point for the Canaries and the Atlantic, and a popular place to keep a boat year round.
It's a passage of around 1,000 miles: down the Channel, across the Bay of Biscay and along the Atlantic coasts of Spain and Portugal.

The route
We leave the Solent heading west, and pick the moment to cross the Bay of Biscay from Falmouth or Brittany when a settled forecast allows. Once round Cape Finisterre the route runs south down the coast of Galicia and Portugal, rounding Cape St Vincent before the final run east to the Strait of Gibraltar.
The Strait has strong currents and can funnel the wind hard from the east (the Levanter) or the west, so we time the approach to Gibraltar and the marinas beyond with care.
Typical stops
- Falmouth or Brest
- A Coruña or Baiona
- Lisbon / Cascais
- Lagos or Portimão
When to go
Spring and early summer are the most popular, so boats arrive ready for the season. September and early October also work well.
Gibraltar is a common stepping stone for boats heading on to the Canaries in October and November ahead of an Atlantic crossing; we can plan both legs together.
Good to know
- Gibraltar is outside the EU and is a popular fuel stop.
- We follow the latest guidance on orca interactions off Spain and Portugal and route accordingly.
- If you'd like to carry on to the Balearics or beyond, see our Solent to the Mediterranean route.
